DIRECTOR
- John Payton
John trained as a Director and Actor at the Court Theatre Training
Company, London after graduating from Lancaster University with a
BA Hons in Theatre. He is an associate of the London College of Music.
John has directed for a wide variety of companies and theatres. His
directing work includes: 1984 (DS Productions), Betrayal
(Nuffield Theatre, Lancaster), Breathing (Courtyard Theatre,
London), Look Back in Anger (Popular Productions Ltd), West
Side Story (Livenation Theatricals), Stags and Hens
(US Tour), Blood Brothers (Hampton Hill Playhouse), Jesus
Christ Superstar (Nuffield Theatre, Lancaster), Fame - the
Musical (Thorndike Theatre, Rhoda McGaw Theatre, Questors Theatre),
West Side Story (Watford Theatre), Anything Goes
(Thorndike Theatre), Jesus Christ Superstar (Beck Theatre,
Hayes), The Baker’s Wife (Barn Theatre, Hampton Court),
The Cherry Orchard (Seevic Theatre) Bugsy Malone
(Beck Theatre, Hayes, Norden Farm Theatre, Maidenhead & Richmond
Theatre), Nine – The Musical (Questor’s Theatre,
Ealing), The Full Monty (Beck Theatre, Hayes) and Jekyll
& Hyde the Musical (Questors Theatre, Ealing).
Upcoming Directing includes John Godber’s Teechers and
Neil Simon’s They’re Playing Our Song (Popular
Productions Ltd). John is also a busy producer for his theatre company
Popular Productions Ltd. Productions include; The Complete Works
of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Neil Simon’s They’re
Playing Our Song, John Godber’s Teechers, the
hit London revival of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change
(Jermyn Street Theatre, West End & Dubai premiere) Misery
(Kings Head Theatre, starring Michael Praed and Susan Penhaligon)
and Look Back in Anger (Middle East Premiere, Madinat Theatre).
John also has many years of experience teaching drama and musical
theatre at many drama schools including five years as Resident Director
at Songtime UK.
